  4. Overview:
  5.  
  6.      Datecrack Plus is a Windows 95 application that defeats
  7. the expiration date on most trial versions of software.  
  8. Applicable programs may be launched from a program list 
  9. within the Datecrack Plus menu and/or from a shortcut on the
  10. desktop.  Some programs launch multiple modules and take 
  11. longer to load.  Previous versions of Datecrack were unnsuc-
  12. cessful in manipulating such programs.  Datecrack Plus 
  13. provides incremental delays to hold the desired date for the
  14. length of time required to successfully launch the applica-
  15. tion.  Each Datecracked program can be customized with it's
  16. own unique delay factor.  Datecrack Plus also includes the
  17. capability to test a target application to determine the 
  18. proper delay period.  Datecrack Plus supports program launch
  19. via shortcut through the use of command line editing from 
  20. within the shortcut properties window.  This program is near 
  21. idiot proof.  Please don't disappoint us.

  25. Installation:
  26.  
  27.      DatCrkPl.exe is a self executing archive.  Double
  28. click on DatCrkPl.exe to extract installation files to the
  29. suggested temporary directory or one of your own choosing.  
  30. Run setup from within the temporary directory.  Setup will
  31. recommend a directory for installation.  The recommended 
  32. installation directory may be changed by the user.  If the
  33. desired directory is not present, it will be created by the
  34. installation program.

  37. directory to the destination directory.  ****

  41. Operation:
  42.  
  43. 1. Adding a program to DatecrackPlus
  44.                         
  45.    a. Click entry.
  46.  
  47.    b. Select the drive where the target program will be found
  48.  
  49.    c. Select the directory where the target program will be
  50. found.
  51.     
  52.    d. Select the EXE file to be datecracked.  
  53.      
  54.    e. Enter date (date entered must precede expiration date)
  55.  
  56.    f. Enter delay factor (value must be within 0-10).
  57.       0=minimum delay
  58.  
  59.       1-9 (factors 5 seconds). 1=5 secs, 2=10 secs, 3=15
  60. secs, etc
  61.  
  62.       10=indefinite.  Current date restoral must be effected
  63. manually via the mouse.
  64.  
  65.     g. Select test.  Datecrack will change the system date 
  66. and launch the target application.  All datecrack options 
  67. will be disabled (greyed out) during the delay period (with
  68. the exception of delay factor 10).  
  69.  
  70.        If the program launched successfully, close the 
  71. program and select OK.  The target program has been 
  72. datecracked.  
  73.  
  74.        If the program did not launch successfully, close the
  75. program and increase the delay factor.  Repeat this step
  76. until the appropriate delay factor is determined.  Once the 
  77. target program launches successfully, click on OK. The target
  78. program has been datecracked.

  83.     a.  Launch Datecrack Plus

  85.     b.  Select Display

  87.     c.  Highlight the target program

  89.     d.  Click on Execute

  92. 3. Removing the Datecrack modification

  94.    a. Select the target program in the display, by left 
  95. clicking it.
  96.  
  97.    b. Click on Delete.
  98.  
  99.       Note:  This action does not delete the target program,
  100. only the datecrack option.

  103. 4. Display  
  104.     
  105.     a. Shows those programs that are currently datecracked.
  106.

  108. 5. Setting up a Datecracked shortcut:
  109.  
  110.     a.  Open the Windows explorer to the DateCrack Plus 
  111. directory    
  112.  
  113.     b.  Copy the shortcut template to the Start Menu,
  114. Desktop, or folder of your choice.
  115.  
  116.     c.  Rename the copied shortcut template to reflect the
  117. target program
  118.  
  119.     d.  Right click on the renamed shortcut template
  120.  
  121.         e.  Select properties
  122.  
  123.     f.  Select shortcut tab
  124.  
  125.     g.  Edit "Target:" information to reflect the
  126. Datecrack Plus\Datecrack.exe path followed by the name of the
  127. target exe file.

  129.     Example: "C:\DateCrackPlus\Datecrack.exe" WebFerret.exe
  130.            
  131.     Notes:   1. The target exe file is case sensitive
  132.  
  133.              2. Do not remove the quotation marks 
  134.  
  135.         h. Edit "Start in:" information to reflect the
  136. installed DateCrack Plus directory.
  137.  
  138.        Example:   "C:\DateCrackPlus"
  139.  
  140.     i.  Click on the "Change Icon" button.  Select one
  141. of the available icons or browse for a suitable icon.
  142.  
  143.         j.  Click on OK to accept the highlighted icon.
  144.  
  145.         k.  Click on OK to close the Properties window.
